This graduation thesis: Influence of press agency ČTK on the economical columns of Czech dailies Právo, Hospodářské noviny and MF Dnes deals with press agency ČTK news influence on the national dailies. The first two months of the year 2006 of three dailies Právo, Hospodářské noviny and Mladá fronta Dnes were being observed. The author features basic excursus into particular stages of research, basic theses and agenda setting principles as a theoretical base. The final part of the work deals with news selection into news service and affinity between resources and editorial staffs. The result of the research, which used content analysis as the researching method, describes the way how editors work with services of press agencies. In which form ČTK news appear in newspapers and how much space they are given there by editors and to which degree they mention authorship while taking news from agencies.
Předsudky a stereotypy vůči vybrané skupině obyvatel: studie s využitím metody primingu
Netolická, Klára
This bachelor thesis focuses on researching social prejudice and stereotypes against a different ethnicity at a chosen group of inhabitants. First it speaks about this issue theoretically and then this issue is researched practically by means of a priming manipulation and a quantitative reseach. The goal of this bachalor thesis is , based on received information, to verify a theory that a priming method has the power to influence a spontaneous reaction of respondents. In a theoretical part of my thesis I define basic words which are needed to understand this issue. A practical part forms work with a segment of students. That was done by questionnaires and a collective interview. A conclusion of the work is a summary and an evaluation of the whole issue which my bachelor thesis focuses on.
Does Media Coverage Help to Understand Conflicts? Redefining the Concept of Peace Journalism and a Comparative Analysis of Cyprus and Nagorno Karabach Conflicts in the Czech Media
Hroch, Jaroslav ; Ditrych, Ondřej (advisor) ; Záhora, Jakub (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to contribute to theoretically sound concept of Peace Journalism, which combines theoretical foundations from two spheres: conflict and peace studies and media studies. Influence of journalists as intervening force and explaining factor with regard to (violent) conflict is neglected. However, Peace Journalism is not theoretically strong and builds upon dualistic definition vis-á-vis so-called War Journalism. The concept of Peace Journalism has to overcome this delamination in order to reflect theoretical underpinnings of conflict transformation theory and conflict analysis. Moreover, Peace Journalism has to differentiate media according to an involvement of given societies in a conflict. This offers an opportunity to specifically and accurately analyse news coverage of conflicts. Case studies analysing Czech coverage of Cyprus and Nagorno-Karabakh conflicts illustrates this approach. The coverage is essentially flat, distorts a reality of the conflict, pays attention to visual and physical aspects of the conflict and closes the conflicts in arbitrary time boundaries.
Priming as a tool for triggering prosocial behavior
Tížková, Tereza ; Polák, Petr (advisor) ; Godar, Sarah (referee)
Priming is a cognitive bias influencing, in various forms, daily life of people. This paper examines the effect of priming in economics, where subjects are often forced to make decisions under uncertainty. The empirical part of this paper introduces the experiment, where subjects were manipulated towards or against prosocial behaviour with verbal priming techniques. The experiment results show that priming to specific concepts correlated with a tendency to act prosocially actually increases the subsequent degree of prosocial behaviour, although the same evidence has not been found with the opposite case.
Media Image of Angela Merkel: portrayal of chancellor in Czech press
Tajzlerová, Lucie ; Osvaldová, Barbora (advisor) ; Lütke Notarp, Ulrike (referee)
The master thesis Media Image of Angela Merkel: portrayal of chancellor in Czech press examines the representation of Angela Merkel in two most widely read Czech national newspapers during her tenure as Chancellor of Germany from November 2005 to March 2018. The theses first familiarizes the reader with Angela Merkel in historical context and summarizes theoretical concepts and terms, which explain the relationship between media and politics. After that, the reader gets acquainted with the research questions and hypotheses, method of quantitative and qualitative content analysis, basic characteristics of the selected daily newspapers, data sample and three parts of the studied period. Then the selected media contents are analyzed: individual periods are first examined separately and then compared. After that, the chancellor's media image is also compared in both journals. The thesis explains how Angela Merkel was represented in the first, second and third term of office, how her media image changed during the course and how it differed in selected newspapers. The research also verifies the assumption that the media image of Angela Merkel has changed over time to the worse, especially during her last term in office.
Chromatin modifications in association with priming phenomenon in plants
Marková, Hana ; Holá, Dana (advisor) ; Fischer, Lukáš (referee)
Plants are exposed to many stressors to which they must be able to adapt. It has been found that plants can memorize the respective stress response and may respond to a subsequent stress exposure faster and to a greater extent. The mechanism of this so-called priming could be associated with the changes in the levels of chromatin modifications. Chromatin modifications are usually dynamically changing during the stress reaction. Some of these changes could persist for some time, thus the specific stress memory, mitotically and meiotically transmissible, could be established. Such a phenomenon was observed for stress caused by dehydration, salinity, mechanical damage, a combination of various stressors and a systemic resistance to pathogenic bacteria. So far, only a few studies on this topic exist; but even now it is clear that there are differences in the response of specific genes as well as the dependence on the length of the stress stimulus and the duration of the period between the first and second stress. A major disadvantage of existing studies is that they focus solely on histone modifications. Regarding the chromatin modifications studied so far, H3K4me3 could serve as the main mark for such priming. On the other hand, H3K27me3 modification is apparently not used as a memory tag. However, it is still...
Analysis of the impact of subliminal signals and priming effect in information processing

The work is about possibilities of subliminal influence on the human mind. The first section explains the basic concepts of cognitive psychology, which is related to subliminal perception, threshold of consciousness and sensory threshold, with regard to the theme. In subsequent chapters is explained the operation of subliminal perception, subliminal stimuli are primarily divided into audible and visual. These are followed by a list and description of experiments and examples from practice and everyday life from ancient Greece to the present. The next chapter is about priming and examples of its use. After the principle of subliminal advertising and product placement is described and their place in legislation in the Czech republic; everything is documented by many examples. At the end of the work, the author demurs to the overall situation and tries to evaluate it.
